Why give a cadet a copy of the book?

This book was written specifically for fellow cadets by a former cadet. It’s a retrospective look at the small compromises a leader might make over a lifetime. Although I had Drill & Ceremonies cadets in mind when crafting the book, my objective has always been to capture the spirit of the National Security Seminar at the close of Army War College.

NSS brings together military and civilian leaders to expose one another to the challenges facing our nationals leaders across the spectrum. This book draws on both civilian and military leadership stories to help tomorrow’s leaders better understand some of the pitfalls they need to avoid, giving them the tools to stand firm in the face of unethical compromise.

It’s not a book about right and wrong. It’s a book about the gray areas. That’s were great leaders are made… where values meet courage. This is the book I wish was available to me while a member of the Corps of Cadets in Aggieland, but I think it resonates with leaders of all ages.
